Brain Injury RESEARCH
Intermittent Hypoxia Paired with High Intensity Training in Individuals with Brain Injury
We are looking to recruit individuals with chronic (>6 months) deficits following acquired brain injury for a walking research study. We are examining the effects breathing brief bouts of air with less oxygen paired with walking interventions. The study involves between approximately 2 separate 5-week training periods (up to 15 sessions each over 1 month = 30 sessions total), with at least 1 month between each training period. Participants will be evaluated prior to and following each training period. Individuals will be required to participate in walking training for one hour up to 5 times per week (15 sessions total over 5 weeks for both training periods), and the total study duration will be about 6 months.
- > 6 months post-acquired brain injury
- No severe orthopedic or other neurologic issues that interfere with participation in walking
Subjects will receive $10 per training session and $40 per testing session
